Remove small items and relocate furniture where possible:

·      Gather books, toys, shoes, and decorative pieces from carpeted areas

·      Lift floor-level electronics and any cables

·      Remove rugs and mats that aren't being professionally cleaned

·      Raise and secure curtains that puddle or fully sit on the carpet

·      Move chairs, coffee tables, and floor lamps to non-carpeted areas.

Clearing the area prior gives you the chance to collect up small toy parts (hello Lego!), coins, hair ties, and all the other bits and bobs that turn up under furniture or concealed in long carpet pile. 

2.    Identify problem areas

Make a mental note of areas that we ought to know about, such as:
